Energy Absorbing Countermeasures for Door Side Impact

IAC has developed a low-cost energy absorbing molded countermeasure for use within a vehicle’s door assembly to help OEMs meet FMVSS 214 standards for side-impact collision. The countermeasure is of recyclable high crystalline polypropylene (HCPP) and can be tuned to varying stiffness through molded-in ribs and holes. It also provides a reduced cycle time over previous countermeasure solutions. The component is tunable to each occupant, and dissipates energy more efficiently and predictably than previous solutions, by directing energy from an impact to exact locations to evenly distribute the force of impact felt by occupants inside the vehicle.
