Tunable Energy Countermeasure Module

IAC’s Safe-TEC™ Module is a 100% recyclable injection molded safety countermeasure and integrated module providing superior performance over conventional solutions for side impact protection and performance in FMVSS testing. Unlike other countermeasures, Safe-TEC uniquely accommodates the energy absorption profiles of larger and smaller occupants into a single component, while integrating other functional components. Additionally, the countermeasure has superior computer aided engineering model correlation for first time validation compliance, and allows the stiffness to be tuned in multiple directions.

The Safe-TEC™ Module can be integrated with existing injection molded components to dramatically reduce weight, investment, and complexity. On one recent application, this innovation reduced part count from six to one with a single Safe-TEC™ pelvic cartridge module, while achieving a five-star side impact performance rating. The complexity reduction resulted in a substantial piece cost savings. In one example, the Safe-TEC™ module reduced mass by 1.7 pounds, resulting in a significant savings to the automaker.
